Shoal Cave Tide Times:
Get the Experience Share:
The Experience Share is very useful if you want to train weak Pokemon. After you deliver the letter to Steven at Dewford, go back to the Devon Corp. and get it from the president. Yep, it's that easy!
Gym Leaders for R/S:
Gym #1 Rustboro City--Roxanne: Rock Types: Geodude Lv. 14 & Nosepass Lv. 15
Bring Water and or Ground Pokemon to defeat Roxanne easily, but make sure they don't have any weaknesses to Rock types,
for instance if they're part Ground and part something else. Do not use Fire or Flying-types, for they are very weak to Rock-types. If you started with Mudkip or Treecko, it'll be very easy if they're at a decent level. Otherwise, you should catch a Shroomish or Lotad and teach one of them Bullet Seed, a Grass-type attack.
If your featured Pokemon are high-leveled enough, the battle should be an easy one. Defeat her to get the Stone Badge.
Gym #2 Dewford Town--Brawly: Fighting Types: Machop Lv. 17 & Mahurita Lv. 18
First, get to Brawly in the dark and make sure you have a good Flying-type to blow away his Fighting Pokemon. A good choice would be a Taillow, a Beautifly, or Wingull that knows Gust or Wing Attack. You might also use a Psychic-type such as Abra, found in Granite Cave first floor, to defeat him. If you are having a hard time finding Brawly, as you defeat more Gym Trainers, the light will become bigger. Defeat him to get the Knuckle Badge.
Gym #3 Mauville City--Wattsom: Electric/Steel Types: Magnemite Lv. 22, Voltorb Lv. 20, & Magneton Lv. 23
Two of Wattson's Pokemon, Magnemite and Magneton, are half Steel-types. If you have a Mudkip and you let it evolve at Lv. 16 to learn Mud Shot, winning will be a piece of cake. Basically, Ground-type attacks are the most effective. Otherwise,
if you have a Torchic, use its Ember attack at a high level to defeat Wattson, though it'll be harder. If you have a Treecko, get a Ground or Rock-type from Granite Cave.
Gym #4 Lavaridge Town--Flannery: Fire Types: 2 Slugmas Lv. 26 & Torkoal Lv. 28
Bring along a Water, Rock, or Ground-type Pokemon. If you have Wingull, Mudkip (Marshtomp), or another decent Water Pokemon, the first two Slugmas shouldn't be hard. However, Tokoal is different. It's Overheat attack can
burn even a Water-type Pokemon, so bring lots of healing items. Defeat her to get the Heat Badge.
Gym #5 Petalburg City--Norman: Normal Types: Slaking Lv. 28, Vigoroth Lv. 30, & Slaking Lv. 31
Norman, your Dad in the game, uses only Normal-types, so use Fighting Pokemon. You can catch a Mahurita from Granite Cave for good results. Try to avoid the One-Hit-KO room in the gym. The move Facade is pretty powerful. However, there is a trick to defeating his strongest Pokemon,
Slaking Lv. 31, without receiving any damage. When Slaking starts using Focus Energy to get ready for a big punch, use an attack that'll do damage immediately. On his next turn, it'll say that it lost its focus and couldn't move. You shouldn't go first on the next turn so it'll use
could use Focus Energy again. Keep on doing the same thing as it uses Focus Energy. That's how I defeated him without getting damage at all by his third Pokemon. However, though this USUALLY happens, Slaking can use another attack when it goes first.
Gym #6 Fortee City--Winona: Flying Types: Swellow Lv. 31, Skarmory Lv. 32, Pelipper Lv. 30, & Altaria Lv.33
Not all of Winona's Pokemon are complete Flying-types. Skarmory is also half Steel-type, so Fire attacks will work. Pelipper is half Water type, so Electric moves will do real damage. Altaria is half Dragon type, so use Ice moves.
Your Pokemon should be over level 30 by now. The most annoying part is that Winona loves to use Hyper Potions, so try to make her waste all her potions on the Pokemon you think is the easiest. Defeat her to get the Feather Badge.
Gym #7 Mossdeep City--Tate & Liza: Psychic Types: Lunatone Lv. 42 & Solrock Lv. 42
Finally, a Double Battle in a gym! Bring out Dark-types, such as Mightyena. Water and Ground-types will also do you good, for both of them are half Rock-types. Recommended Pokemon would be Marshtomp, Mightyena, and a Ground-type--Sandslash. Defeat them to win the Mind Badge.
Gym #8 Sootopolis City--Wallace: Water Types: Luvdisc Lv. 40, Wiscash Lv. 42, Sealeo Lv. 40, Seaking Lv. 42, & Milotic Lv. 43
Here we are, the last gym! Use Electric Pokemon for all Wallace's Pokemon except for Wiscash, which is also a Ground-type, so Electric moves will certainly have no effect. Grass-types will be great, too, especially on Wiscash. Be careful in the gym, for the floor is only a thin sheet of
ice, and you cannot step on one block twice. Defeat her to obtain the Rain Badge. On to the Elite Four!!
The Elite Four--Ever Grande City:
Recommended Pokemon for Elite Four:
Elite #1--Sidney: Dark Types: Mightyena Lv. 46, Shriftry Lv 48, Cacturne Lv. 46, Sharpedo Lv. 48, & Absol Lv. 49
Here comes the first of the Elite Four! Bring out Fighting-types and or Bug-types for extra effect, but use only Bug Pokemon against Cacturne and Absol.
Elite #2--Phoebe: Ghost Types: Dusclops Lv. 48, 2 Banettes Lv. 49, Sableye Lv. 50, & Dusclops Lv. 51
Don't use Psychic types, they won't have any effect. Use either Ghost or Dark Pokemon against Phoebe.
Elite #3--Glacia: Ice Types: Glalie Lv. 50, Sealeo Lv. 50, Glalie Lv. 52, Sealeo Lv. 52, Walrein Lv. 53
Yikes! Use Fighting and Electric-types for maximum effect. And watch out for Glacia's Pokemon's Blizzard attacks!
Elite #4--Drake: Dragon Types: Shelgon Lv. 52, 2 Flygons Lv. 53, Altaria Lv. 54, Salamence Lv. 55
Unlike most times, Dragon attacks are Super Effective against Dragon-types. So bring out Ice and Dragon Pokemon for an easy win, and make sure they are over level 50 or slightly under might be okay.
Champion--Steven: Steel Types: Skarmory Lv. 57, Cradily Lv. 56, Claydol Lv. 55, Aggron Lv. 56, Metagross Lv. 58, Armaldo Lv. 56
Here comes the Champion, whos place you're here to take! Use Fire, Water, and Fighting-types to crush his Pokemon and claim your place as the new Champion of Hoenn!
