The G/S/C games start in the Jhoto Region, and later you can travel to Kanto. But you start out with either Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile.
Cheats/Hints:
Stand on a Rock
Okay, this might be stupid, but you can stand on rocks in these games, though it rarely happens. Simply destroy a rock with HM move Rock Smash, and then stand where the rock was. Save the game, and wait like a day. Then reload the game. And you could be standing on rock.Seven Trainers

Johto Gym Leaders:
Gym #1 Violet City--Falkner: Flying Types: Pidgey Lv.7 & Pidgeotto Lv.9
Since you cannot possibly have an electric Pokemon at this point of the game if you're playing it all by yourself, train your Pokemon to higher levels than Falkner's birds. If you started out with Cyndaquil or Totodile use them, or if you have a Chikorita you
can either trade a Bellsprout for an Onix at this boy's house, or you can catch a Pidgey and train it. Remember, if you trade a Bellsprout for an Onix, the level the Bellsprout is at will be the same level as the Onix. Win to get a Zypher Badge and $900.
Gym #2 Azalea Town--Bugsy: Bug Types: Metapod Lv.14, Kakuna Lv.14, & Scyther Lv.16
HA!!! Metapod and Kakuna should be simple. The only HP-threatning move is Tackle. How bad can it be unless you have weak Pokemon? However, Scyther won't be as easy. It's Fury Cutter may not seem tough at first, but it gets stronger and stronger. If you have a Cyndaquil it shouldn't
be too bad, and a Pidgey or Pidgeotto if you have one with Flying moves will also be good. So, if you started with Totodile or Chikorita you should catch a Pidgey, or they'll have to be on really high levels if you want to even have a chance on winning.
if you win you'll get $1600 and a Hive Badge.
Gym #3 Goldenrod City--Whitney: Normal Types: Clefairy Lv.18 & Miltank Lv.20
Ok, so here's Normal types. I doubt you have a Fighting type right now unless you traded with someone, so use whatever Pokemon you've got. I suggest ones that are not easily threatened by Rollout, for that's Miltank's toughest attack during this battle. Clefairy shouldn't be too hard to
beat. Miltank's Rollout gets stronger every turn, and even a Pokemon at Lv.24 can get beaten by it (yes, I experienced). So save your game with lots of Super Potions before you battle Whitney so you don't have to lose money and just restart the saved game if you happen to lose. When you win
Whitney will start crying, and after that other girl says she'll will stop soon, you go up to Whitney again and she will give you a Plain Badge and $2000.
Gym #4 Ecruteak City--Morty: Ghost Types: Ghastly Lv.21, 2 Haunter Lv.23, & Gengar Lv.25
Don't use Fighting, Psychic, or Normal moves. Those do not effect ghost types at all. Use Rock moves against them, plus your starter--IT BETTER HAVE EVOLVED BY NOW!! ^_^ Gengar will get on your nerves, I'm sure of. It'll use Dreameater and Hypnosis, so hit it hard with all you've got! And bring
Super Potions or Hyper Potions, if you have any, and of course, LOTS of Awakenings or Mint Berries. If you win you get $1600 and a Fog Badge!
Gym #5 Cianwood City--Chuck: Fighting Types: Primeape Lv.27 & Poliwrath Lv. 30
Bring out Flying Types and hit them hard with Flying moves like Gust or Wing Attack. Do not use Normal types, they get knocked out pretty easily by Fighting Pokemon. For Poliwrath, you can even use a few Electric moves, and if you have a Psychic type use Psychic moves against both of them. Win to get
$3000 and a Storm Badge.
Gym #6 Olivine City--Jasmine: Steel Types: 2 Magnemite Lv.30 & Steelix Lv 35
Ooh, Steel! Use Fire types against both of them, and use Low Kick of Sudowoodo if you have it to destroy Magnemite fairly easily. Oh, and if you went to Mahogony Town early, you can use Dragon Rage of Gyarados. Win to get
$3500 and a Mineral Badge.
Gym #7 Mahogony Town--Pryce: Ice Types: Seel Lv. 27, Dewgong 29, & Piloswine Lv. 31
Use Electric Pokemon. I don't think Fire is a good choice, because they know Water-type attacks. Piloswine might be a bit harder because it has a powerful defense, but it's slow. You can use Low Kick of Sudowoodo against it. Win to get $3100 and a Glacier Badge.
Gym #8 Blackthorn City--Clair: Dragon Types: 3 Dragonair Lv.37 & Kingdra Lv.40
Dragons! I suggest you DO NOT use Electric moves. Use Dragon Rage of Gyarados, for Dragon-type attacks are Super Effective against Dragon-type Pokemon. Bring some Hyper Potions. Win to get a Rising Badge and $4000.
Elite Four
Elite Four #1: Will: Psychic Types: Xatu Lv.40, Xatu Lv.42, Jynx Lv.41, Exeggutor Lv.41, & Slowbro Lv.41
Powerful attacks!! Prize is $4200.
Elite Four #2: Koga: Poison/Bug Types: Ariados Lv.40, Forretress Lv.43, Venomoth LV.41, Muk Lv.42, & Crobat Lv.44
Win to get $4400. Use Fire attacks on the first 3 Pokemon on the list above and Psychic from Espeon--hopefully you have one--for the other two.
Elite Four #3: Bruno: Fighting Types: Hitmontop Lv.42, Hitmonchan Lv.42, Hitmonlee Lv.42, Onix Lv.43, & Machamp Lv.46
Use Espeon's Psychic attack on all of Bruno's Pokemon, and Water attacks on Onix. Win to get $4600.
Eltie Four #4: Karen: Dark Types: Umbreon Lv.42, Vileplume Lv.42, Gengar Lv.45, Murkrow Lv.44, & Houndoom Lv.47
Don't use Psychic attacks. Powerful Fire and Rock moves should do it. Win to get $4700.
Champion: Lance: Dragon Types: Gyarados Lv.44, 2 Dragonite Lv.47, Aerodactyl Lv.46, Charizard Lv.46, & Dragonite Lv.50
That's a tough team there, but use Dragon Rage for Dragonite and Aerodactyl, Electric moves for Gyarados, and Water moves for Charizard. Win to get $5000.
