The influence of television
"Abstain from every form of evil."
1 Thessalonians 5:22
I'm sure you have heard the saying, "hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil"? Our senses are like gateways to the soul. It is our privilege to be able to control, to a large extent, what comes into our minds, either allowing it to produce evil in our hearts or enabling us to grow closer to God. How do you think it affects your thoughts and your heart and morals, if you watch evil things every day? Doesn't it shut God's holy light out of your heart, if you keep filling it with evil things?
"I will walk within my house with a perfect heart. I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me. A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will not know wickedness." Psalm 101:2-4
Why is the television generally the centre of attraction in a person's house? It has become a way of living and people can't imagine a life without it. What do people do when they go out for an evening? They mostly look for entertainment. "In the last days"... people will become "lovers of pleasure, rather than lovers of God." (2 Timothy 3:1-4). Satan has found the pefect way to influence people's minds and to distract them from God. Society is losing the value of the finer things in life, like the soothing sounds of crickets under the twinkling stars. Or the fresh breeze at sunrise. The beautiful colours in the sky at sunset. The sounds of birds, bringing melody into our hearts. The sound of water rushing down the mountains and the sounds of the ocean, soothing our hearts.
"Abhor what is evil, cling to what is good." Romans 12:9
Why do we put television before God? Isn't that making an idol of television? "And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people. Therefore come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean and I will receive you. I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daugthers, says the Lord Almighty." 2 Corinthians 6:16-18
