Star Goes to Hell:
Hutchison Lands a Devil of a Role
SOU: Feb 20, 1996

Fiona Hutchison (ex-Gabrielle, OLTL; ex-Jenna, GL) has landed the guest lead in the premier episode of the FOX mid-season replacement series POLTERGEIST as the Devil!

I'm playing an eerie variation of the Devil," says the English actress who recently quashed rumors that she was returning to OLTL.  "(My character) is pure unbridled evil with a definite agenda.  She wants absolute, unconditional control.  It's as simple as that."

Specifically, Hutchison's character wants control over a young man whose family she has dominated for generations.  She's runs into a spot of trouble in the form of The Legacy,  a secret society bent on dealing with "things that science cannot explain and religion chooses to ignore."

"I was intrigued by the script," says Hutchison.  "It's judiciously structured and it really grabs you and (makes) you crave more."

Over the course of the episode, the she-devil is transformed into her demonic embodiment --  a process that required Hutchison to spend long hours in the make-up chair.  "(That) can normally be a bit uncomfortable," she says, "but these people are wonderful to work with.  I must say I was in total awe of the finished product."

The episode airs in late April on Showtime and on FOX in September.

Fiona Hutchison, You Look Like Hell
How Makeup Whizzes Turned Her
Into a L'il Devil For TV Show
SOM: Feb 1996

Fiona Hutchison, (ex-Jenna, GL) had a devil of a time preparing for her role in  an upcoming episode on the new Poltergeist series.   I had to spend three hours in the make-up chair for one day of shooting," explains Fiona, who portrays and evil force that has plagued the main character's family for centuries.  "The upside was that, when they were done, I looked positively demonic; the downside was that it was incredibly uncomfortable and painful."

To transform the English beauty into a satanic villain, Fiona says the makeup artists stretched her face muscles with a tape like device and glued on several thin layers of latex wrinkles.  Then they airbrushed paint over the Latex.

"The fumes from the airbrush were awful," says the actress.  "They had to stop several times so I could breathe.  But the worst part was the bright blue contacts that completely covered the irises of my eyes, which was painful -- and frightening."

Fiona who expects to make a full recovery, says she'll think twice before subjecting herself to that kind of makeup ordeal again.  "I used to audition for the Star Trek-type television series all the time, " she laughs.  "Now you can bet I'll be asking if the character is of this planet or not before I even consider the script."

The series, which will air on Showtime, begins in April, Fiona's episode will air in May or June.
