Fiona Hutchison with Tatum O'Neal,
her co-star in "A Terrible Beauty" (April, 1992)
SOM: July 28, 1992
The question to several stars was:
What has been your most challenging role
and what effect did it have on you?
Fiona Hutchison:
"Diedre Sheridan in the off-Broadway production of Terrible Beauty is my
most challenging role to date. Diedre was an Irish dentist who contracted
AIDS by sleeping with a heterosexual man. It had a very strong impact on me. We all hear so much about people having AIDS. Perhaps we even have a friend who has AIDS. But trying to imagine from their perspective what it would be like to actually know you will eventually die from an incurable disease changes the focus of your entire life. You concentrate on things with substance and meaning, as opposed to the trivial matters of everyday life. This role really made me realize that AIDS is an issue we need to be educated about."
