| Asa tells Gabrielle that he's having more
fun with this marriage than most of his real ones, and they toast their
plan. Later, Gabrielle offers Max champagne but soon sees that he's distressed.
They talk about his concerns for his future child and she reaches out to
comfort him when a "drunk" Asa barrells in and hollers at his hussy of
a wife and orders Max to leave. Max listens on as Asa verbally abuses a
seemingly frightened Gabrielle until he thinks Asa has gone to far and
he intercedes pulling Asa away from her. Asa falls to his chair as a concerned
Renee enters the study. Asa rants about his unfaithful wife and then passes
out. Renee accuses Gabrielle of getting Asa drunk and risking his life.
After she leaves Max tells Gabby she has to leave Asa for her safety, but
she refuses insisting she can take care of herself that he's only like
this when he drinks. Max suggests that she at least stay in his room for
the night until Asa sobers up. She takes him up on his offer. (June 2001)
