At first glance, it would appear as though GL's British Bombshell Fiona Hutchison (Jenna) has it all. She's blissfully married to former soap hunk John Viscardi (ex-Tony, OLTL) and mother to 4-month-old John Hutchison Viscardi (nicknamed "Hutch"). Her daytime character, Jenna, is making a grand return to GL under the guidance of Paul Rauch, and executive producer Fiona respects and admires, And she's fresh off the set of a movie co-starring movie legends Robert Wagner and Roddy McDowell. What more could the actress want? "Sleep," says Hutchison with a laugh. "I want sleep. If someone said to me you could have an entire day to do exactly what you want to do, I'd say, 'Find me a room and a bed!'" No wonder. Since her return to the GL set in mid-December, Fiona has worked more than a few 17-hour days, cramming in as much studio time as possible before the show's two week holiday hiatus. The new job, coupled with a new baby who hasn't got the hang of sleeping through the night, has meant almost constant exhaustion for the working mom. Although Fiona was thrilled to return to the NewYork- based soap, it meant that she and her new baby had to leave the family's recently purchased L.A. home. John, now a development assistant and screenwriter at Warner Bros., is staying on the West Coast for now. "We decided it would be foolish of me to turn down a job at a place I love, working with people I love - so John and I are working it out as it comes along," Fiona says. "Yes it's tough not being together every day, but we decided to assess the situation every few weeks and see if it's working - if it isn't, we'll work something out." In case it isn't obvious, this is a woman who's absolutely in love with her son. Motherhood has changed her for the better, says Fiona. "I'm more patient, I don't get annoyed over little things anymore. No matter how tired I am, I'm still having a good time. I'm so happy. It's even affected my work. When the little boy who plays my son cried for any reason, I just want to comfort him, even if I forget my lines, much to my distraction!" The birth of their first child has only cemented their marriage, Fiona says, especially since it wasn't easy going in the delivery room. After more than 30 hours of difficult labor, doctors were discussing an emergency Caesarian section before they attempted to suction the baby out. "I thought I was going to die, it hurt so bad," she recalls. "They were pushing on my stomach, it was so intolerable I couldn't breath or think. But moments later, when I saw John holding Hutch and singing a Frank Sinatra song to him, my heart melted. It was all worth it." Hutch has gone with his mother all over the world while mom pursues her acting career. In fact, says Fiona, during the first four month of life Hutch racked up more frequent flyer miles than most people do in a lifetime. "I had to fly back and forth to New York for business about two weeks after he was born," she explains. "naturally my biggest concern was that Hutch was too young to make such along plane trip, but my pediatrician assured me that he's strong and healthy, so off we went. The baby flies like an angel; there's never a peep out of him.". Of course that might be because he's fascinated with the exotic locales he's visited. Recently Fiona with husband and baby in tow, filmed an episode of Robin Leach's Gourmet Getaways in Australia. "it took about 30 hours to get there because we had to fly to japan and Malaysia before we got to Australia, and Hutch was an absolute trooper. The show provided us with a nanny and, of course, she had an Australian accent. Now Hutch giggles when you say 'G'day' to him, which is the way Australian's say 'Good day'. Mere days before her first call on the set of GL, mother and child flew to Las Vegas where Fiona filmed a part in the movie Something to Believe In, starring Roddy McDowell and Robert Wagner. "I play a blackjack dealer who's the best friend of a girl diagnosed with lymphoma," she explains. Then it was on to Springfield to drop a little bombshell named Henry Cooper Bradshaw in Buzz's already-married lap. "Jenna definitely has an agenda. She has Buzz's baby, which he knew nothing about, "Hutchison says. "Although she thinks she can slink off into the sunset when she sees Buzz and Reva together, he has other plans." Although Fiona won't speculate on when Buzz will find out the baby is his, she does promise it will be a twisting and torturous journey. There will be quite a few detours before Jenna can safely execute her plan!" * |
