SID: Role Reversal (May 2003)

With the acting biz being as competitive as it is, performers are remiss to pass on work. Yet that's just what Fiona Hutchison (Gabrielle) did after being offered--and accepting--the role of an Army sergeant in a play to be directed by a friend. "I had to wear combat boots and a camouflage outfit, and at the time my hair was very very short, butch, so it all sounded like a lot of fun," she relates. "But when I went to the first rehearsal, and did these monologues, it scared me. I couldn't wrap myself around it."

What had taken the actress aback? "The dialogue was quite vulgar," she shares. "It was then that I discovered that I could play evil, and I can play a pregnant dog, but it just doesn't feel right to play ugly-- filthy ugly. That was the only job I've ever back out of."

That's A Fact:
Hutchison is currently moonlighting in Hartford, CT, where she is lensing Whirly Girl, a film produced by Kevin Costner.
