Gist TV's Drama Queen
Fiona Hutchison
(April 29, 1997)

After a two-year absence from Guiding Light, fan favorite
Fiona Hutchison returned to the role of Jenna Bradshaw last December just in time to celebrate the show's landmark sixtieth anniversary. GIST caught up with the busy actress and new mom moments after she wrapped up a week-long guest stint as co-host of the FOX morning show, Fox After Breakfast.

Q: What was it like to co-host Fox After Breakfast with Tom Bergeron?

A:  It has been a complete and utter joy. Tom is just fabulous to work
with. We had fun. We first met at the Starlight Foundation. We were both guests that evening. We were up on the podium together, and I knew I
liked him immediately because we had a script and he said his bit and
then he proceeded to say my bit as well! I thought, 'This guy is fun, a
kindred spirit that I could really goof around with.'

Q:  What was the best thing about this whole experience?

A:  I have loved meeting the guests.

Q:  Who stands out?

A:  Well, Rip Torn. He is just absolutely super and Jean-Claude Van
Damme, I thought he was awfully funny. Quite fabulous. Also,  they've
been so welcoming to Hutch [she says, motioning to her infant son who is
in his stroller]. He slept through Wednesday's show, but he has been on
all the other shows.

Q:   How old is Hutch now?

A:  Seven months old.

Q:  Does he go to work at Guiding Light with you?

A:  Yes, he goes with me every day.

Q:  Why did you go back to Guiding Light?

A:  Well, they made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I love working for
[executive producer] Paul Rauch. He is a dynamite producer. I knew that
he would have some changes for the show. I knew he'd be fun to work with because I'd worked with him for four years before and he was really
powerful then. I mean whether or not the outcome of everything is making us number one, I don't know. My concern is enjoying my day at work,
feeling appreciated. You can't just work for work's sake. There is more
to it than that. And if you have choices of places to go, which I've
been very fortunate in having, then it doesn't come down to, 'Geez, I
just want a job.' It comes down to, 'Well, who am I going to be with all
day?'

Q:  Guiding Light fans were so excited about you coming back.

A:  Oh, they've been fantastic.

Q:  What kind of mail are you getting from them?

A:  Oh, very helpful, happy to see me back.

Q:  What do fans think about Buzz and Jenna?

A:   I think they love Buzz and Jenna together. They really do, and I'm
glad we have Ramy Zada, who plays Jeffrey, to interject a lot of
conflict and turmoil because we need that. You can't have happily ever
after.

Q:  What was it like for you when you came back to Guiding Light and saw your old friends?

A:  It wasn't exactly the same as when I left. There were a lot of
changes. But on the other hand, I came back to a lot of good friends. I
stayed in touch with them. It's not that I said, 'See you later. Never
see you again.' They gave me a farewell party when I left and made me
feel that I could always come back. I'm very fortunate and lucky that I
was able to. You don't always know you can go back.

Q:  Before you signed with Guiding Light, was there any possibility of
you returning to One Life to Live to play Gabrielle again?

A:  That almost happened. That's where I was going to be.

Q:  So it didn't work out this time around. Any possibility of you going
back there a few years down the road?

A:  Hey, never say never. You don't know what life is going to bring,
although by the time you'd ever see Gabrielle again, she'd be a bit old
and decrepit.
