Beth Ehlers SPW: May 1997 Excerpted Harley's first order of business will be to further complicate the Buzz/Jenna/Jeffrey storyline. Ehlers says, "I'm so excited about that story because I love working with Fiona (Hutchison, Jenna). She and I really work well together. We decided that we're really going to hate each other. We're just going to be bitchy to each other. It's going to be great."

GL Gal Pals: Fiona Hutchison (Jenna) and Kimberly Simms (ex-Mindy). "Kimberly is out in LA. We speak probably once a week. You know the Mindy thing is weird. Some people say they want Krista Tesreau back, but she was a different Mindy. I think it depends on what you want. I'm biased because Kimberly is my friend." Social Set: "It's hard to hang out [with castmates] when everybody's married and everybody has kids, but the people I do socialize with are Frank and Tea Dicopoulos. Frank and my husband golf together often. They've become fast friends. We also see Fiona and her husband John Viscardi. Fiona and I go out after work and have drinks. Grant Aleksander and I are friends but he lives outside the city, so it's tough. And Amy Ecklund and Rebecca Budig are also friends of mine." DIGEST ONLINE: How do you feel about the "sting operation" storyline, with Harley, Jenna and Phillip all working to expose Jeffrey? Is it a lot of fun to do? EHLERS: Oh yeah, because I love Fiona Hutchison [Jenna]. The last time I worked with her was when it was Mark Derwin [Mallet] and she and I. Fiona and I always kept thinking, "Put us in a storyline together, we'd really like to work together," and now we're so happy. We're very different actresses and we have different energies, but we think it works well. And you know I'm working with all my favorite people, Grant Aleksander [Phillip] whom I've known for ten years, and Justin Deas [Buzz] who I love, and Frank Dicopoulos [Frank] -- my favorite person! I've known him so many years.

Arabesque: "Fiona Hutchison (Jenna). She used to be a ballet dancer. When we taped Annie's wedding, we had these beautiful little ballerinas running around, and Fiona kept yelling out these ballet words. She carries herself like a dancer -- I feel like a slumping schlub next to her."

Timeline
After four years in California, Ehlers agreed to reprise her role for the show's 60th anniversary, then signed on full time shortly afterward. Her first new storyline? Teaming up with Jenna (Fiona Hutchison) to oust Jeffrey from Springfield. "Ramy [Zada, Jeffrey] was hysterically funny, and Fiona and I had a lot of fun. Many times, before scenes, we would have to stay away from each other, because when we taped, the producers would say, 'It's not tense enough'. That was because we liked each other so much in real life."
Best Rivalry
The freezer in which daddy's little girl locked the ex-jewel thief may have been busted, but baby, was there every electricity in there! Hair was pulled, arms were twisted, and names were called, all by Harley, attempting to get a water and perspiration soaked Jenna to admit why she ditched the cop's dear old dad. The insults hurled by both women were hysterical; it was like watching two marksmen at target practice. The unlikely Jenna/Harley alliance may have stunned Buzz right out of the kitchen, but it has kept viewers from ever paying visits to their own fridges during their scenes.
Best Female Bonding:
Harley didn't like her father's girlfriend from the get-go. Or did she? That's the beauty of this relationship. Even though there's antagonism between these two women, one sense they genuinely care for each other -- they just would not be caught dead admitting it. Beth Ehlers and Fiona Hutchison (Harley and Jenna) have more chemistry than many supercouples. |
