In The Spotlight... GLs Fiona Hutchison
By: Diane Clehane
 June 1997 (Soap Opera Magazine)

Hutchison says a woman would maximize her assets.
This simple but sexy little black dress does just this.

As GL’s Jenna, Fiona Hutchison wears sexy designer clothes and custom-mde suits accessorized with glamorous makeup. But off-screen the actress prefers a simple, pared-down look.  “I suppose I gravitate toward the casual, athletic look that’s becomes so popular in the nineties,” says the actress, who feels completely at ease in jeans and T-shirt.  When it comes to buying, Hutchison believes less is definitely more. “I used to have a show fetish, but now I look in my closet and I want everything simple and clean.  I find myself thinking, “What can I get rid of?  Quite honestly, no one remembers what you wear from day to day.  I know I don’t.”

THE FASHION FILE

The 5-foot-4 actress favors stylish, easy-to-wear sportswear from Banana Republic ('I love their jackets because they look good and they're so durable').  She also owns suits and pants from Donna Karen and separates from YL.  She loves great-looking clothes, and always follows one rule: "It's not about what's stylish, it's about what's stylish an me.  You have to know what cuts and lines work best on you."  Hutchison believes a woman should maximize her assets.   I think it looks beautiful to focus attention on the shoulders and neckline The back is another sensuous area, and if you have good legs, don't cover them up.  I say go for it!'

For high-profile events like the Emmys, Hutchison often wears the beaded designs of Bob Mackie.  'He's very clever at lifting things and pushing things up," she says.  'His dresses really give women more shape."  Sometimes she prefers an understated look. “I frequently leave it up to the designer of the show to come up with something wonderful.”

THE BEAUTY BIT

Not a fan of any particular skin care line, Hutchison admits she likes to experiment.  "I go through phases with brands and try lots of tonics and lotions, " she says.  "I inevitably get bored.  I really don't think it matters what brand you use, you just have to find something that works for you."  She does, however, try to have regular facials at Feline, a New York City day spa.  “Facials can be a bit gimmicky but they're a good way to relax,” she says.

Liquids keep her porcelain-like complexion picture-perfect.  "I drink a great deal of water and milk since I had my son," she says.  'I've kept up with it and it's made a difference in my complexion.”

Off the set, Hutchison prefers to keep her face "clean and washed, with nothing an it."  Nothing, that is, but sunscreen.  “I use the same thing I put an my son.  It's from Bain de Soleil with an SPF 30."  When an occasion calls for the actress to put her best face forward, she wears Clinique or Shiseido foundation ("That brand is a bit thicker I also like their eye shadows, the colors are pretty").

EXERCISING HER OPTIONS

Although the busy working mother gets most of her exercise “chasing after" her son and her three dogs ('I'm always crawling around on the floor!'), Hutchison enjoys staying fit with various types of exercise.  'I try to take ballet classes a couple of times a week, and we have a, gym at work where I use the treadmill and, occasionally, the weights to keep everything toned " She also likes to make running in Central Park a family affair 'We put Hutch in one of those baby runners, and my husband, John, pushes it, and I run beside it."
