The Fetching Cowboy Hat

Word count: 386 | Completed:Yes | Style: Silly, surreal

Apple wasn’t very pleased. Joshua, the small sea sponge that lived on Apple’s head, had bought a fetching cowboy hat, and it had arrived the previous morning. The hat itself was not the problem, but more the effect the hat had. Apple was not only mildly annoyed that Josha had been on eBay and not bought something like a DVD for him, but whenever Joshua wore the hat he disappeared completely. In fact, when Joshua wore the hat, it looked like Apple was wearing a fetching cowboy hat and not Joshua on his head. Apple like having Joshua on his head for a multitude of reasons, one of the primary ones being that sea sponge headwear was very fashionable. Fetching cowboy hats weren’t exactly on the cover of Vogue.
“Can’t you put it in the wash and shrink it or something?” Apple complained, wings twitching in irritation.
“!” Joshua replied in his usual negligently worded manner.
This was too much for poor Apple. He grabbed the hat and shoved it into a nearby washing machine.
“?” Joshua said when the shock of loosing his fetching cowboy hat had worn off.
“I don’t know where that washing machine came from either.” Apple answered, pouring a large amount of washing powder into the mysterious machine.
“… ?” Joshua sulked.
“Just a few minutes.” Apple replied.
A few minutes later, Apple triumphantly pulled the sopping and slightly smaller but still fetching cowboy hat from the washing machine.
“!?” Joshua started.
“Indeed,” Apple agreed as he turned to the drier that had appeared to his left.
“It was a very sudden appearance for something as large as a drier. But it is convenient.”
And Apple placed the slightly smaller fetching cowboy hat in the drier. After a short while, the drier said
“Whoosh!” and its lid popped open to reveal a much smaller and still fetching cowboy hat.
“…” Joshua said, looking dubiously at the small hat.
“It’s still fetching. Look, it’s description says so.”
Apple positioned the hat on Joshua, and it fit very nicely on top of his head, rather than covering him completely.
“…” Josha begrudgingly said.
“Yes, it is still very fetching.” Apple agreed.
Yet again our courageous mutant apple with two arms and wings and a sea sponge on his head had saved the day.
