The sky’s darkness spread across the land, changing the dull concrete to soft velvet shadow. A veil of clouds trailed slender tendrils of fog across the ground, almost hiding the thin sheen of rain sliding down through the air. Such was the level of intricate details surrounding the lone taxi as it sped through the deserted city, ten volumes of adjectives and metaphors would be completely inadequate. Only one word could describe the night he saw from his window, and that word was “Nice”.

The driver was silent, allowing the soft ‘tick’ of his fee counter fill the stillness in the car. The smell of the seats, slightly damp leather, hung in the air almost oppressively, but he didn’t want to open a window for fear of getting wet. The slight rumble from the engine would flare up now and again, contrasting the ever-present and ever-raising fee counter. He had been there for a measure of time, quite a substantial measure, that can only be adequately portrayed as “Long”.
