Monochromatic Monochrome
A series of four portraits
This series of four paintings is set to capture the changes that occur during a single persons lifetime. Each is a rendition of American actor Leonard Nimoy (who is most well known for his portrayal as the Vulcan called Spock) at different stages in his career. The years I have chosen are 1950s, 1960s, 1980s and 2000s due to the changes in haircut and general facial appearance.

As the face evolves, I have used different techniques and toning for each picture. Though I keep the unity of monochrome with a dominant shade of grey, I have tried to show the viewer how, with the same materials, one can achieve varied and wonderful results. I feel this reflects the versatility of Leonard Nimoys career, which now includes not only acting but directing, poetry, photography, writing and several LPs.

Each piece of artwork took no longer than four hours to complete, and is painted with black, white and grey acrylics.

Cyriax?
A portrait by Erin Walsh
This portrait is my tribute to the wonderful Australian actor, Jeremy Stanford. I have used high contrasts and unusual shadows to bring a different angle to normal portraiture. I didnt mix the white, black and grey on a separate surface, but used the painting surface itself to blend tones. This was as much an experiment in painting as a desire to mix more harsh brush strokes with smooth gradients.

When this exhibition is finished, I intend to send this painting to Jeremy Stanford as a token of my appreciation.
