"Kids For Kids" Celebrity Carnival
May 1, 2004
Welcoming over 2,000 guests, Kids for Kids 2004 lived up to its reputation as one of New York City 's biggest events for the young and young-at-heart. The open-air street carnival held at INDUSTRIA SUPERSTUDIOS on May 1 generated more than $1.3 million for the Foundation. Thanks to our generous underwriter, the Bandai Foundation and other sponsors, 100 percent of every dollar raised will be directed to providing critical funding for pediatric research worldwide.
Over 100 well-known individuals from film, sports, the arts, fashion, society and television, including The Sopranos' James Gandolfini, volunteered as Celebrity Heroes by working old-fashioned carnival game booths everything from Tip-A-Troll to Rainbow Roll. Four-time Golden Globe nominee Julianne Moore and world-renowned fashion designer Donna Karan were among the other celebrity supporters who came out to enjoy the event.
A lot of people think the AIDS epidemic is over, but it isn't. We still have many kids sick with the virus, said Julianne Moore.
AIDS has affected all of us at a very deep level, agreed Donna Karan. The Foundation is doing such a great job of addressing the issue of pediatric AIDS.
The glorious afternoon also featured tasty treats from more than 45 of New York City's most famous restaurants, the Bandai B*Stylin' Booth, where guests created one-of-a-kind buttons to jazz up their outfits, and the InStyle area where aspiring models stopped by for their very own fashion spread. Throughout the day, popular cartoon characters such as the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Astro Boy, Strawberry Shortcake and her friends offered hugs and smiles to kids in the crowd.
The fun continued inside INDUSTRIA SUPERSTUDIOS. In the TARGET Storytelling Room, children, young and old, enjoyed classic kids' books like Green Eggs and Ham read aloud by Brooke Shields, Meredith Vieira and The Bachelor Bob Guiney. Hairstylist to the stars Ric Pipino provided fashion makeovers and the latest dos. Guests boogied down at an Interactive Dance club hosted by MTV, VH-1 and CMT. The Kids for Kids Art Room was a popular hang-out as some of the worlds greatest artists helped guests create their own personal masterpiece. And children chose their favorite toys and prizes at the Toys R Us Tower of Toys.
Kids for Kids is a fun way for each of us to get involved and make a difference for children everywhere, said Kate Carr, president and CEO of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
Make plans to join us at next year's spectacular event!
