Theatre celebrates 30th anniversary

Ithaca's renowned Hangar Theatre is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a stellar summer season line up.
Meet the three professional actors starring in this year's opening production at Ithaca's Hangar Theater. Thespian Donovan Patton says the 'Complete History of America Abridged' takes the text book version of America's history, flips on its head and shows people everything they missed while they weren't paying attention in history class.
"This show will teach you more about American history in the midst of all your laughter, we like to think of it almost as one of those thirty minute ab workouts," Patton said.
The Hangar Theatre's 2004 summer season does start off with a giddy, sidesplitting comedy but if that's not your forte, don't worry, the theatre's artistic director says every theatre goer will find something they like in this year's line up.
"We're ranging from wacky, zany, crazy comedy that's starting the season which is just crazy, wild, fun, to the longest running most popular musical in the history of the United States, and in between, a great American classic play, a world premier of a new romantic comedy and a beautiful play for adults about intimacy and desire," said Artistic Director Kevin Moriarty.
Moriarty says many local artists are on the cast lists of several of the theatre's upcoming productions. But not the first one.
'The Complete History of America Abridged' debuts this Friday at 8:00 pm.
Here's how it ends.
"I don't want to tell you but shhhh... everybody dies... I'm just kidding," Patton laughs.
For the real ending or to watch Patton proudly romp through all of the women's roles in the show, be sure to check it out. The show runs through June 12th. There are still a limited number of tickets available for opening night.
