InuYasha Anime & Manga:

The Japanese anime called INUYASHA is set in the Sengoku Period of Japan. The show is basically about a time travel fantasy adventure based on the hit comic book series by the same name.

Kagome Higurashi is a normal teen-aged girl who just turned fifteen. She discovers that she can travel back and forth between the present and the Sengoku Period through a well at the shrine near her house. As Kagome is drawn to another time, she is also drawn into a quest with InuYasha in search of the Shikon Jewel. Not to mention the Jewel is also broken into pieces, making their job more difficult than before. Kagome discovers powers within herself that she never even knew existed. These special powers were from the great sorceress Kikyou. Kagome is the reincarnation of Kikyou. InuYasha and Kagome later on discover that they both have feelings for each other as they search for the stone together.

When Kagome arrives in the past, she is first captured and tied up by the people of the local nearby village, due to her whereabouts and different clothing. Lady Kaede takes a very close at Kagome and discovers that she resembles a lot of her older sister Kikyoy. Lady Kaede then decides that Kagome is the reincarnation of their village's priestess, Kikyoy, who "killed" the half demon InuYasha using one of her arrows before she died. Kagome proves that she is the reincarnation of Kikyoy when she is wounded by a centipede demon, a glowing jewel emerges from the wound of the demon. This is the Shikon Jewel, which Kikyoy died to protect. Kagome also discovers that she has the ability to sense the Shikon Jewel.

InuYasha is a half demon. His father, a legendary wolf demon, but his mother a mortal human woman. InuYasha has the outward appearance of a demon, including doglike ears and claws, but his strength is not as strong as a full demon's powers. Therefore, InuYasha wants the Shikon Jewel, which has the power to transform him into a full demon. InuYasha is not the only one who wishes for the jewel. The Shikon Jewel can increase anyone's powers with its magic, and during the series, many humans and demons alike are seduced by the jewel's power.

The search for the Shikon Jewel becomes the center of InuYasha's Story when the jewel is shattered into many multiple shards during an early battle. From that point, InuYasha and Kagome have the mission of tracking down all of the shards, and piecing them back togerther again. The story takes the form of a quest, with each episode introducing a new demon or person trhat has obtained one of the many jewel shards. Kagome can also use the well to travel back to her own time to stock up on supplies, such as her schooolbooks, snacks, and to also keep up in school.

InuYasha isn't just a hunt for jewel shards, demons, and such. As the series continues the relationship between Kagome and InuYasha develops and becomes more complex and interesting. When Kagome first frees InuYasha from Kikyou's spell, his first thought is to destroy the woman he quickly identifies as his "killer" by her smell, but an enchantment cast upon him by Kikyou's younger sister, Kaede, enables Kagome to control InuYasha with a word. Kagome quickly thinks of a word "sit." This is a bit of Rumiko Takahashi's humor; "sit" would be something one would say to a dog. The spell is contained in the necklace of prayer beads around Inuyasha's neck which he can't remove no matter how hard he tries. InuYasha hates Kagome from the start. But over time InuYasha reveals more about himself and his half demon nature. He soon protects Kagome from any danger, even when he has no particular reason to. Kagome proves to be much stronger than he ever thought she could be, standing up to opponents and enemies in order to proctect others, even at great risk to herself.

As their quest continues, new companions join in the journey-Myoga, InuYasha's flea demon advisor; Shippo, a fox demon; Miroku, a Buddhist monk; and Sango, a demon exterminator.
